The Journal of Academic Ophthalmology is the official journal of the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology (AUPO). It is a peer-reviewed, electronic, English-language journal that serves as a national forum for the publication and scholarly exchange of ideas and information of interest to academic ophthalmology. This journal provides a home for articles which address topics of interest specifically to the ophthalmology education community, AUPO membership, and beyond. These topics include medical education, resident and fellow training, research in health education, policy, and regulation. The readership of JAO is international, with over 150 countries represented. The journal has a diverse editorial board consisting of leaders in ophthalmology education and academic ophthalmology.
The Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology (AUPO) was founded in 1966 as an organization dedicated to research and education. Through its mission, AUPO is the voice of academic ophthalmology. The objective of AUPO is the promotion of medical education, research, and patient care in ophthalmology.
